Angelique Kerber earns Germany’s Sportswoman of the Year honor

Tennis star Angelique Kerber strikes again. After a fantastic year on the WTA Tour, Kerber wins Germany’s Sportswoman of the Year award.
Angelique Kerber finishes her 2018 WTA Tour in the world number two position. She is behind just French Open champion Simona Halep. As the Romanian tennis star faded in the final months of the year, Kerber begin to rise. Angie is on the verge of taking back the world number ranking one in the early months of the coming tour.
After her hard-fought year, Kerber wins Germany’s Sportswoman of the Year award for the second time in her career. The honor is voted on by the country’s sports media and, given the way Kerber performed throughout the 2018 WTA Tour, she deserves every bit of it.
For the German tennis star, 2018 was complete with a Wimbledon win. She has always wanted to take the illustrious title in London. Previously, Kerber was a two-time Grand Slam champion, winning both the Australian Open and the US Open. Now, Angie has three major tournament titles to her name in women’s singles.

Kerber has tons of momentum heading into the 2019 WTA Tour. Winning Germany’s Sportswoman of the Year is just another sign that the former world number one is about to overtake the sport yet again.
Defeating American tennis legend Serena Williams at Wimbledon this year, Kerber proved that she still has what it takes to win on the biggest of stages. Plus, the victory over Williams even comes the same year that the American jumps leaps and bounds in the Fandom 250 rankings.
The upcoming tour will feature the German taking on the best of the best in women’s singles tennis. A former champion at Melbourne Park, all eyes will be on her in the coming month. The defending champion at the Australian Open is Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
Look for Angelique Kerber to make the most of her strong finish in 2018. She will continue to be among the top players on the WTA Tour. Now having three of the four Grand Slam singles titles on her resume, Angie could complete the set if she can step up her game at Roland Garros.
