Eugenie Bouchard Poised For Strong Auckland Performance
By Harry Floyd
Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard has touched down in Auckland and appears ready to capitalize on her late 2018 momentum.
Eugenie Bouchard is looking to make a statement at the 2019 ASB Classic. The young Canadian tennis player has struggled in recent years but managed to gather some momentum in the final weeks of her 2018 WTA Tour. Now, she is in Auckland and gearing up for the action in women’s singles. Bouchard’s game has been under the microscope ever since she rose to the world number five ranking back in 2014.
This coming tour, Genie is working with Michael Joyce. Most recently, Joyce has worked with Johanna Konta and Victoria Azarenka. He has also worked with Maria Sharapova in the past. His pairing up with Bouchard is something to keep an eye on.
"“I feel good,” Bouchard said. “I have a new coach I like, I’ve been working hard. There’s no guarantees for results but I definitely want to push myself and do whatever I can. I feel like I ended the season well, so I want to bring that momentum into 2019.” – Eugenie Bouchard on the upcoming 2019 WTA Tour"
There is no telling what any year on tour will bring, but one has to think that Bouchard can rise in the women’s singles rankings yet again. The sport is experiencing a resurgence on the WTA Tour and Genie is right in the mix of a talented field of players. She has the experience, however, to hang with the very best. Plus, at just 24-years-old, Bouchard has plenty of time to rediscover her game and turn things around on tour.
The young tennis star is known for sharing what she is up to off the courts with fans via social media. HERE, Bouchard shared a barrage of Halloween photos. HERE, Genie sports an ugly Christmas sweater. Despite her enjoying time off the courts though, the Canadian tennis player is also one for working hard in the offseason. It is time to see if that hard work will pay off.
Recently, Eugenie Bouchard performed well at a Hawaii exhibition and should use that as motivation heading into action at Auckland. The ASB Classic is the perfect tournament to kick off her year on a high note. Stay tuned to see how she fares in the coming week.
