Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer is the two-time defending champion at the Australian Open. Can he win yet another this year?

Roger Federer is coming off of an impressive 2018 ATP Tour. The veteran great is already into the later years of his career, but he remains one of the top players in men’s singles tennis. Competing with Spanish great Rafael Nadal for much of the past season, he and Nadal split the first two Grand Slams with Federer taking the Australian Open and Nadal taking the French Open.

Now, we have to wonder if Federer can rise to the occasion again at Melbourne Park. He has won six total singles titles at the major tournament with two coming in 2017 and 2018.

His prior Australian Open wins came in 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2010. He has an incredible history at the first Grand Slam of the calendar year. While Novak Djokovic is OUR PICK to take the title in men’s singles tennis, Federer is plenty capable of winning there again.

Roger Federer is a six-time champ at the Australian Open. Two of those titles came in the last two years.

At the 2018 Australian Open, Federer met Croatian great Marin Cilic in the finals. The match was one for the ages, seeing the Swiss veteran emerge on top.

2019 men’s singles action at Melbourne Park will be no cake walk for Federer. The veteran legend is competing with the likes of red hot peers such as Djokovic, Kevin Anderson, John Isner, and others. On top of that, ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev could threaten the field, going for his first career Grand Slam singles title. His ATP Finals win is a huge step in the right direction for the young German. He is the sport’s next big tennis superstar.
