Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori is at the Brisbane International this week. He is practicing and celebrating his birthday.

A big happy birthday from us and tennis fans everywhere to Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori. He is practicing at the Brisbane International on his birthday this week. Nishikori is a fan favorite and, like everyone else on the ATP Tour and WTA Tour, is gearing up for the 2019 action.

With the Australian Open right around the corner, the newly 29-year-old Nishikori will be seeking some much needed momentum heading into the first Grand Slam of the year.

In the past, the Japanese great has seen success at Melbourne Park. And at Brisbane, he has finished runner-up in both the men’s singles and doubles action. Keep an eye on him this coming week. Nishikori enters the 2019 ATP Tour as the world number nine in men’s singles tennis.

Via the Australian Open’s social media accounts, the major tournament wished Nishikori a happy birthday and shared THIS PHOTO of him blowing out candles on a birthday cake.

The Grand Slam also noted that the Japanese tennis star is a three-time quarterfinalist at Melbourne Park. He reached the quarters in 2012, 2015, and 2016.

Nishikori is arguably one of the best players in men’s singles tennis without a Grand Slam singles title to his name. His best finish at a major came at the 2014 US Open where he fell to Croatian great Marin Cilic in the finals. Look for Nishikori to make a run at the upcoming Australian Open. Novak Djokovic is currently OUR PICK to take the title in men’s singles tennis. Roger Federer is also a two-time defending champion at the event so the field will be stacked. Nishikori can, however, make a deep run if he finds his rhythm in the coming days.
