Anderson and Djokovic are leading the way for players of their generation right now. Others, such as Swiss legend Roger Federer and Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal, are players to watch. Nadal, who was also in action at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, withdrew from the event after falling to Anderson in his opener.
Health has been a major concern for Nadal since the middle months of the 2018 ATP Tour. After taking home yet another French Open men’s singles title, the King of Clay began to breakdown due to injury and it is yet to be seen whether or not he can maintain a schedule worthy of a world number one. All eyes are on Nadal as we head toward the Australian Open.
2019 action is kicking off on both the ATP Tour and the WTA Tour all around the world this week. The play in Abu Dhabi was a great event to showcase some of the best players in the sport. Because the competition was so strong, everyone involved looks to have utilized the event as a perfect warmup to their ATP play this month.
On the women’s singles side of the play, Serena Williams and sister Venus Williams faced off in an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi. Venus edges Serena in the match. Stay tuned to see if Novak Djokovic and the others can carry this early momentum right into ATP Tour and WTA Tour action. With the Australian Open right around the corner, any success and tournament play is something to capitalize on.
