Novak Djokovic remains the top contender in men’s singles tennis and he is without a doubt the favorite heading into the 2019 ATP Tour.

Is another career year coming for Serbian tennis great Novak Djokovic? Initial thoughts are that, yes, it is. The current world number one is red hot heading into the 2019 ATP Tour and there is no reason to think he is not the favorite in men’s singles tennis. Other veteran greats and rising stars are in the mix, but Djokovic stands out above the field.

Djokovic starts off his year with another title at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. The event is an exhibition that features some of the best players in men’s singles tennis. The world number one defeats South African Kevin Anderson in the finals.

Momentum, momentum, momentum. Djokovic has it all right now. Ending his 2018 ATP Tour with wins at Wimbledon, the US Open, and a runner-up finish to rising star Alexander Zverev at the ATP Finals, Nole has not let up one bit. Last year, after such incredible success and an unprecedented comeback to the tour, we declared 2018 the Year of Nole. And as of right now, there is no reason to think that this year should be any different.

Djokovic remains the player to beat on the 2019 ATP Tour.

His performance this past week is something to examine. Djokovic’s play in Abu Dhabi is telling of things to come. He is now heading to Doha as part of his schedule prior to the Australian Open.

Roger Federer is the current two-time defending champion at Melbourne Park. Normally, that would make him the easy pick to take the title in men’s singles at the Australian Open. We must, however, consider Djokovic’s current state and give that more weight than Federer’s past performances. The world number one is OUR PICK to take the title at 2019 Australian Open.
