The biggest takeaway from the Australian Open third round is that the best in both women’s and men’s singles remain the favorites.

Upsets were harder to come by during the third round of the Australian Open. We could call Daniil Medvedev’s win over David Goffin a minor upset on the men’s singles side. The Russian is, however, a rising star on the ATP Tour and is seeded higher than Goffin at Melbourne Park. So Goffin might have had a bit more experience than him, but he wasn’t a huge favorite if at all against the 22-year-old Medvedev.

Prediction for the upcoming fourth round action; we will see several upsets across the board, including at least one in our top five favorites in men’s singles.

One fourth round match to really keep an eye on is Alexander Zverev as he takes on tennis veteran Milos Raonic. Zverev has flourished on the ATP Tour as of late but Raonic is in the middle of a tremendous comeback. It will be experience versus youth in their Australian Open meeting. Something to note is that Zverev reaches the fourth round at Melbourne Park for just the first time. Will he be one of the top players to see an upset?

Another fourth round match to watch will be Australia’s own Ashleigh Barty as she takes on Russian tennis legend Maria Sharapova. It’s difficult to say whether or not a Barty victory could be considered a true upset. For all intents and purpose, it would be, but Sharapova is still gaining more and more consistent play since returning to the court.

Again, it will be experience versus youth and this time the experience is on the side of one of the greatest the sport has ever seen. Sharapova is coming off of a win over defending champion Caroline Wozniacki. She has momentum and is a former champion at the Australian Open. Stay tuned to see how the fourth round action unfolds this year at Melbourne Park.
