By Harry Floyd
Former Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber has been OUSTED in dramatic fashion by Danielle Rose Collins in the fourth round.
Angelique Kerber has been KNOCKED OUT of the 2019 Australian Open. The one to do it… 25-year-old American tennis player Danielle Collins. The young American is relatively unknown on the Grand Slam circuit. Prior to this year’s action at Melbourne Park, Collins was yet to win a single match at a major tournament. Now, she is into the quarterfinals.
History is in the making at the Australian Open. Women’s singles still has plenty of fire power left in several former world number ones, past champions, and so on, but a player such as Collins brings an entirely unexpected x-factor to the final eight.

Collins did not just upset Kerber. She did so in dominant fashion. Winning in straight sets, the young American takes the fourth round match 6-0 6-2. By the time Angie gathered any semblance of her game, it was too late.
Kerber was the second seed this year at the Australian Open. Just world number one Simona Halep is ahead of her in the seedings. The Romanian great remains alive and has setup one of the most highly anticipated matches with American tennis legend Serena Williams. That is one of the many exciting fourth round matchups remaining on the books.
After her upset victory over Kerber, Collins appeared confident and ready to keep on moving at the Grand Slam event. HERE, she tells fans that she thinks her current success is going to keep up at the Australian Open.
A major tournament isn’t complete without one or two cinderella stories and the young American could be in the middle of one of the greatest. Prior to upsetting the second seed, Collins knocked out French tennis star Caroline Garcia. She defeated Garcia 6-3 6-2. Her toughest match was her opener against another Julia Goerges that she won in three sets.
While Angelique Kerber, a former Australian Open champion, has been ousted, several other top players in women’s singles tennis remain in contention. Read more about the third round upsets and updates here and check back to see how the rest of the fourth round matches shape up.
