Australian Open action enters the final four on both the men’s and women’s singles side this week. Here’s a look at what happened in the quarters.

The 2019 Australian Open is coming down to the wire. Here’s a look at the quarterfinals action and how we got to the semis. Let’s start with world number one and the top seeded Novak Djokovic. The Serbian great reaches the semifinals at Melbourne Park. Djokovic is seeking his seventh career men’s singles title at the major tournament.

With Swiss legend Roger Federer out of the mix, Djokovic’s chances greatly improve. In the quarterfinals, the world number one came face to face with the surging Kei Nishikori. Djokovic found himself getting the perfect match for any player prior to a semifinal.

Nishikori retires in the second set and Djokovic wins 6-1 4-1. The Japanese tennis star had gone through a grueling five-set fourth round match with Pablo Carreño Busta and it had worn him down. Nishikori has struggled with injuries in recent years and there’s no doubt that his body just wasn’t quite able to hold on at the Australian Open. Still, the quarterfinals appearance is fantastic for him and we should see more of Nishikori on the 2019 ATP Tour.

Djokovic sets up a semifinals meeting with young French tennis star Lucas Pouille. The 28th seeded Pouille defeats veteran great Milos Raonic in the fourth round to advance. He wins in four sets, going 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-4. The 24-year-old reaches the semis for just the first time in his career. Our prediction is that Djokovic wins their upcoming match in four sets. Pouille will need to dig deep and play at his best if he hopes to upset the world number one.
