Rafael Nadal eyes a 12th title at the French Open later this year. Can the Spanish superstar defend his title and legacy at Roland Garros?

With the French Open up next on the Grand Slam circuit, Rafael Nadal is vying for his 12th career title at Roland Garros. Right now though, it’s another tennis legend who has overtaken the sport and we must wonder whether or not Nadal can continue his dominance on clay…

Heading into the finals at Melbourne Park, Rafa had not dropped a single set. He silenced any critics who thought he was not healthy enough to make a major tournament run. Despite the loss to Djokovic, all signs point to future success for Nadal on the 2019 ATP Tour.

Because he played so well at the Australian Open, we have to think that Nadal remains the favorite to defend his title at Roland Garros. He has won the French Open the past two years and a total of 11 times throughout his illustrious career.

Nadal and Djokovic are easily the top two players to consider for the 2019 French Open title in men’s singles tennis. Djokovic is on fire right now, but so is Nadal. And being the King of Clay, a healthy Nadal might just have the edge even over a red hot Nole.

The next three months are critical for both players on the tour. Any momentum they can gather and maintain is key moving forward. Plus, the more reps against both veteran greats and young next generation talent will go a long way come time for action at Roland Garros.

Nadal currently is and should remain the odds on favorite to take the men’s singles title at the 2019 French Open. Pending the unexpected, he is the one player who can stop Djokovic’s momentum. The Serbian might have gotten the best of Rafa at the Australian Open, but the King of Clay should bounce back to being the favorite when it comes time for the clay court action.
