Even after Indian Wells loss, Roger Federer remains a top player

Roger Federer remains one of the players to beat in men’s singles this year on the ATP Tour. Here’s a look at why that is.
Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer falls to Austrian Dominic Thiem during their finals meeting at the 2019 Indian Wells Masters. Thiem got a chance to knock off one of the tournament’s greatest champions in men’s singles and he did just that.
Federer does, however, remain one of the top players to contend with on the ATP Tour this year. His finals appearance at Indian Wells came just after yet another title at the Dubai Tennis Championships. Despite the fanfare surrounding the likes of Novak Djokovic, Thiem, and others, Federer remains right there in the mix of players to beat.

His title in Dubai made it number 100 in men’s singles. Federer continues to make history anytime he steps onto the courts. Although he falls to Thiem at Indian Wells, his finals appearance saw him defeating the likes of Hubert Hurkacz, Kyle Edmund, Stan Wawrinka, and Peter Gojowczyk.
Federer continues to hang with and beat the best in men’s singles tennis. Djokovic is winning Grand Slam tournaments at an unprecedented rate, but Federer is right on his heels.
Following the finals loss to Thiem, the Swiss great slides one position into the world number five ranking on the ATP Tour. That could easily be just a minor setback prior to the Miami Open.
Look for Federer to play loose and rely on his experience throughout the remainder of the 2019 ATP Tour. He ought to be a contender in any tournament he plays in, especially Masters 1000 events and major tournaments. If Rafael Nadal struggles due to injury at all and other rising ATP stars such as Alexander Zverev cannot keep up the pace of that being displayed by Djokovic and Federer, the Swiss legend can put some distance between himself and the field.
Roger Federer undoubtedly remains one of the top players in men’s singles tennis this year. One match loss, in a finals nonetheless, should did little if anything to knock him off course. Look for Federer to challenge the best all year long.
