Okay, we’re throwing another former world number one into the mix of top sleeper tennis players on the 2019 WTA Tour… Victoria Azarenka.

As of writing, Victoria Azarenka is the current world number 46 in women’s singles. She is an accomplished veteran of the WTA Tour and has two Australian Open titles on her resume. Azarenka has, however, played intermittently on the tour since becoming a new mother toward the end of 2016. There is more to life than tennis, but Azarenka is managing to play more than she did in recent years.

Azarenka already has one women’s doubles title on the year. At the Mexican Open, she and partner Zheng Saisai tasted glory. While her singles play has been more hit and miss on the 2019 WTA Tour thus far, Azarenka is capable of rising to the occasion. This is especially true at the bigger tournaments. Do not discount her potential to take a title at any given event.

With 20 WTA singles titles to her name, including two Australian Opens, a healthy Vika is someone any opponent should fear no matter the tournament. She has steadily risen in the rankings yet again and could go even higher with one or two successful stretches of tennis in 2019. Azarenka is easily one of our sleepers picks for tennis players this year.
