Action at the 2019 Miami Open rolls on in men’s singles. Here’s a breakdown of the upcoming John Isner versus Kyle Edmund matchup.

Miami Open defending champion John Isner continues to win this year at the event. He’s already into the round of 16 after straight set wins over both Lorenzo Sonego and then Albert Ramos Viñolas. Now though, Isner comes up against Kyle Edmund and could face his biggest challenge yet at the tournament.

Edmund touched career heights last year and is looking to get his 2019 ATP Tour back on track. The British tennis star is coming off of wins over both Ilya Ivashka and then Milos Raonic at the Miami Open.

Take a look at the career head to head between Isner and Edmund. There is not a long history of singles matches between the two tennis stars… Isner took the first meeting between them back in 2016. Then, later that same year, Edmund bested the towering American. Both of these matches came at Grand Slam events.

John Isner is the defending champion in men’s singles at the Miami Open.

1-1 doesn’t make predicting this upcoming match any easier. Isner is the current world number nine in men’s singles tennis. Edmund is the current world number 22. The American tennis veteran appears due to earn a title on the year.

Isner is fresh off of strong performances at his most recent tournaments. He posts a 10-6 ATP singles match record coming into the Miami Open. Edmund, on the other hand, is just 2-3. He is in need of a win but it might not come against Isner. The young British tennis star has been battling back from injury for much of the last few months.

We see Edmund giving Isner a run for his money at the Miami Open match this Tuesday, but like the tournament’s defending champion to win. This year, Isner is the seventh seed in the men’s singles field whereas Edmund is the 19th seed. If Edmund can somehow pull off a victory, it will be a shocking upset to one of the best so far on the 2019 ATP Tour.
