5 things we learned from the Sunshine Double
#2 – Novak Djokovic is suddenly looking vulnerable again…
The World No.1’s poor form in Best of 3 set matches continues on. This time of the year is when Novak Djokovic is typically very successful. He has won the Sunshine Double four times in his career. That is the most by any player.
Djokovic’s Australian Open win had catapulted him as the favorite for both the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open. Yet, a rain delayed match against Philipp Kohlschreiber handed him a second defeat of the season. And then in Miami, Roberto Bautista Agut made it 2 in 2 against Djokovic in 2019.
Consider this, Djokovic has won only three Best of 3 tournaments since March 2017. Add to that, the ongoing saga about board meetings and internal politics in the ATP Council and the World No. 1 has a lot to think and work on before Wimbledon after which, he will have a lot of points to defend.
