Amazing Tennis Match Unfolds During Estoril Open Semifinals
By Harry Floyd
Action at the 2019 Estoril Open semifinals kicked off with an epic matchup between two of the sport’s biggest stars.
Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas took on Belgian tennis great David Goffin in the Estoril Open semifinals this Saturday. We made some predictions for the semifinals already that you can check out here. This match in particular was a tough one to call. Neither player was going to go down easy and they proved that when they squared off.
Goffin jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set. He bests Tsitsipas 6-3 in the first set. Then, the young Greek tennis star roared back into contention, winning the second set.
Tsitsipas battles back, taking the second set 6-4 over Goffin. Of course this semifinals matchup would need three sets in order to claim a victor. Either one of these two is going to be the favorite when it comes to the finals tomorrow at the Estoril Open.
The third set would prove to be another back and forth battle. Goffin managed to barely edge Tsitsipas roughly half way through, up 3-2. Then, Tsitsipas once again fought back, taking the next game to even the match at 3-3. What a true testament to both of these players’ will to win.
Goffin, the fourth seed this year at the Estoril Open, would win a war of deuces in the next game and go up 4-3. Not so fast though. Tsitsipas came back again, taking a 5-4 lead in the third. He would continue that momentum throughout the remainder of the match, winning 3-6 6-4 6-4. The top seed advances after a fantastic match with Goffin.
Now we await the outcome of 19-year-old Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and veteran Pablo Cuevas. These two are both in the middle of stellar runs at the 2019 Estoril Open. Anything can happen and we took the young up and comer just for the sake of it. Check back to see how the second semifinals meeting unfolds.
