There are several 2019 Madrid Open favorites in action on Tuesday. Let’s dive deeper into the matchups and make a few picks.

Men’s and women’s Madrid Open favorites are taking to the court on Tuesday and we’re here to say how they ought to stack up against the competition. Let’s start with an interesting matchup in men’s singles. Belgian tennis star David Goffin is coming off of a semifinals run at the 2019 Estoril Open. Falling to the eventual champion in Stefanos Tsitsipas, we like Goffin’s chances right now.

The Belgian tennis star takes on Márton Fucsovics in the round of 64. Looking at their career head to head, Goffin has scoreboard. It’s just a 1-0 record, but we’re going with it. Goffin has seen slightly more success in his last few tournaments than Fucsovics and we think he has momentum heading into the Madrid Open.

Also taking to the courts on Tuesday is two-time champion in women’s singles Simona Halep. Entering the field as the third seed this year, we like Halep’s chances in her round of 32 matchup with British number one Johanna Konta. This match will surely be a major test for Halep as Konta has actually bested her a lot in the past. When it comes to clay though, especially in Madrid, it’s difficult to bet against the Romanian tennis star.

The fourth seed in women’s singles is Angelique Kerber. She takes on Petra Martić following a dominant performance over Lesia Tsurenko. Kerber ought to be considered the favorite in this matchup and we’re picking her to advance.

One other key matchup to lookout for in men’s singles is that between fifth seed Dominic Thiem and young American Reilly Opelka. The American just upset Pablo Carreño Busta but he now faces a player we really like during the clay court season. Thiem is a MASSIVE test for Opelka and he may not be as fortunate as he was against Carreño Busta. A lot of eyes are going to be watching their matchup come Tuesday at the Madrid Open.
