Argentine tennis veteran Juan Martin del Potro is back on the tennis courts despite ongoing injuries. Is he ready for the 2019 French Open?
Juan Martin del Potro is back in action on the 2019 ATP Tour despite ongoing injuries. He made his comeback at the Delray Beach Open and has managed to appear in a few tournaments despite withdrawals from others. Now, we have to wonder whether or not the Argentine tennis star is ready to compete at the French Open…
Delpo reached the quarterfinals in Delray and then splashed out early at the Madrid Open. In Madrid, it would be world number one Novak Djokovic who would take the title. He continues to make history, dominating the sport for the past year.

Injuries aside, Delpo remains one of the best players in men’s singles tennis. His intermittent play throughout the entire year, however, makes him a tough pick at the upcoming French Open. Currently, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal must be considered the players to beat.
Along with the two favorites, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has to be mentioned. So do these three outside contenders who could play spoiler. With so many up and coming ATP stars, veteran greats like Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer, Delpo’s injuries are a concern.
Most recently, the Argentine tennis veteran played at the Italian Open. He did manage some success that has to be noted heading into Roland Garros. During his opener in Rome, Delpo ousted Belgian tennis star David Goffin 6-4 6-2. Then, he went on to defeat Casper Ruud in straight sets before ultimately falling to Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
His play at the Italian Open is a positive sign moving forward. Delpo might be a fringe pick for the men’s singles title at Roland Garros, but he cannot be discounted. The biggest thing for him to worry about is if he can put together enough matches in a row to go the distance.
Juan Martin del Potro is a former US Open champion. His best results at the French Open are two semifinals appearances, one in 2009 and one last year. He fell to Nadal in the semis last year but Delpo has the experience needed at Roland Garros. Injuries worry us though so we have to cautiously consider him an outside pick in men’s singles. How do you think he will fare at the upcoming Grand Slam event in Paris?
