Only one player can take home the title at the French Open. Nadal is the current two-time defending champion. But, all three of these tennis legends have tasted glory before. For both Federer and Djokovic, it’s only been once.
Djokovic is easily considered the player to beat all-around on tour right now though. The world number one takes on Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso next. Federer takes on Casper Ruud in his next match at the French Open.
Then, we have Nadal taking on David Goffin. The Belgian tennis star poses the biggest challenge that any of these big three faces. Goffin is the 27th seed this year at the French Open. He is a former world number seven on the ATP Tour and is extremely accomplished. Previously, Goffin has gone as far as the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
We’re taking each of the big three in their next matches. BUT, Rafa goes up against the toughest opponent and cannot afford to mister for even a single game when taking on Goffin. Momentum is critical, especially during a Grand Slam. Nadal is right at home at Roland Garros, winning 11 titles in men’s singles throughout his career. He must, however, prove that he can handle an opponent such a Goffin if he is to stand out amongst the likes of Federer and Djokovic.
On the women’s singles side of the action, Simona Halep is the defending champion at the French Open. She wins another three-set thriller to continue on at Roland Garros. Check back for updates on all of the action at the major tournament as we progress.
