Naomi Osaka OUSTED from French Open, Grand Slam winning streak ends
By Harry Floyd
Naomi Osaka has been defeated at the 2019 French Open, ending her impressive 16 match winning streak at major tournaments.
World number one Naomi Osaka is no more at the this year’s French Open. The top seed falls in the round of 32 to world number 42 Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. Siniakova takes their match in straight sets, winning 6-4 6-2. The Czech tennis player is the top women’s doubles player right now and is seeing plenty success in singles action.
Siniakova puts an end to a 16 match winning streak for Osaka that saw her win both the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open. She won two matches at Roland Garros this year, including a hard-fought win over Victoria Azarenka.

With Osaka out of the mix, all eyes turn toward defending champion Simona Halep. The Romanian tennis star wins her round 32 meeting with Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets. Halep has steadied herself since surviving two three-set battles to open her time at Roland Garros.
There are several top names in women’s singles still alive. Osaka being ousted opens the flood gates for either a new champion or a former champ at the French Open. Garbine Muguruza takes on Sloane Stephens in a highly anticipated round of 16 matchup next.
Others to lookout for include Serena Williams, Johanna Konta, and Madison Keys. Siniakova finds herself going up against Keys next at Roland Garros. If she plays the way that she did against Osaka though, this match is going to be a tough one to call.
One would think that Keys is an easy to pick to win, but Siniakova is playing fantastic tennis. Siniakova is coming off of wins over both Elena Rybakina and the red hot Maria Sakkari prior to her massive upset over Osaka. Do not discount her moving forward.
Hats off to Naomi Osaka on an overall solid performance at the 2019 French Open. Her Grand Slam winning streak comes to an end but a title at the US Open and Australian Open is already a dream run for any tennis player.
