Action at the 2019 French Open reaches the quarterfinals in men’s singles and we have a MONSTER matchup to look forward to.

Roger Federer is taking on the French Open for the first time in and a while. So far, the Swiss tennis icon is yet to drop a single set. Typically, Roland Garros is reserved for the King of Clay Rafael Nadal. While Rafa is still alive, so is Federer and another veteran to lookout for.

Stan Wawrinka finds himself in the quarterfinals, taking on Federer next. These two Swiss stars are among the most experienced players in men’s singles.

Wawrinka is the 2015 champion in men’s singles at the clay court Grand Slam. Federer is the 2009 champ. Novak Djokovic snuck a title in there but otherwise it’s been all Nadal.

Either Federer or Wawrinka could threaten the Spanish superstar this year though. We have Federer taking on Wawrinka in the quarterfinals. Federer is playing near-perfect tennis.

Wawrinka has also been brilliant, defeating Grigor Dimitrov in a straight set match that saw him winning three tiebreaks in each set.

Wawrinka then went on to taking down rising ATP star Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16. These two put on an epic battle but it would be the veteran Wawrinka emerging on top. He now face an even bigger challenge when he goes up against Federer next.

Looking at their career head to head, Federer is the clearcut favorite. He is an impressive 22-3 against Wawrinka. Ironically enough though, the last time that Wawrinka did defeat Federer came during the quarterfinals at the French Open. This is a rematch of sorts.

We have to favor Federer in this Roland Garros quarterfinals matchup but it’s not a given. Wawrinka is a three-time Grand Slam champion in men’s singles tennis and is plenty capable of continuing on at the French Open. Elsewhere, action in women’s singles recently saw a HUGE UPSET when young American Sofia Kenin ousted Serena Williams in straight sets. Check back for more updates from Roland Garros 2019.
