Ashleigh Barty makes history, wins 2019 French Open

Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty joins an elite club by taking home her first ever women’s singles title at a major tournament.
Ashleigh Barty is your 2019 French Open women’s singles champion. The 23-year-old tennis player is now among elite company. Her win at Roland Garros marks Barty’s first ever Grand Slam singles title. She has been surging in the past year and all of her hard work has paid off.
The French Open champion defeats another up and comer in Markéta Vondroušová. Barty defeats her challenger in straight sets, winning 6-1 6-3.

Both 2018 and the start of this year were complete with strong Grand Slam performances for Barty. Last year, she reached the third round at Wimbledon and the fourth round at the US Open. At Flushing Meadows, she also took home the women’s doubles title alongside American tennis star CoCo Vandeweghe.
Then, Barty made it to the quarterfinals at the 2019 Australian Open. Continuing to show promise in women’s singles, we knew she was one of the top sleeper players to watch this year. Barty’s fantastic stretch of tennis now culminates with a win at the French Open.
How high is the ceiling for Barty? At just 23-years-old, the young Australian is here to stay. She continues to prove herself on all surfaces and against all types of opponents. Lookout for her on the rest of the 2019 WTA Tour.
Amongst her impressive wins this year at Roland Garros were victories over four strong American tennis players in Danielle Collins, Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, and Amanda Anisimova. Barty is winning when it matters most and her championship win over Vondroušová was fitting in that she appeared destined to take the title from the outset.
Elsewhere at Roland Garros, King of Clay Rafael Nadal takes to the court today to take on Austrian Dominic Thiem. This is an epic rematch of the final in men’s singles from last year.
