The quarterfinals of the French Open officially begins on Tuesday, as two women’s and two men’s matches will take place. There are a wide variety of players in action on day 10, as we have two matchups featuring seeded players on both sides of the net, one matchup where one of the players is seeded, and another matchup where both players are unseeded in the tournament.

The first match of the day will be the unseeded matchup, as Paula Badosa takes on Tamara Zidansek. That match will be followed by Elena Rybakina vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, which will be the first career meeting between the two. The first men’s match will follow that, as Alexander Zverev will be up against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. All three of these matches will be exciting to watch, but I got my eyes on the final match of the day as my must-watch match for Tuesday.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Daniil Medvedev

Stefanos Tsitsipas facing off against Daniil Medvedev is the must-watch match for Tuesday. This match features two top five players in the world currently, as Stefanos Tsitsipas is the world number five, while Medvedev is number two in the rankings.

More from Lob and Smash

There is a strong rivalry between the two, as they have faced each other seven times already in the past, with Medvedev currently leading the head-to-head 6-1. The only victory Tsitsipas was able to get was back in the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals, where he won in straight sets to end a five match losing streak to Medvedev.

The last meeting between the two took place at this year’s Australian Open, where Medvedev defeated Tsitsipas in straight sets in the semi-finals. This will be the third meeting between the two at a Grand Slam, as they met one other time back in the 2018 US Open, a match Medvedev won in four sets.

Medvedev came into this year’s tournament 0-4 at the French Open, yet has been dominate so far in all four of his matches this year. Medvedev has only dropped one set thus far, losing the first set to Tommy Paul in the second round, and has beaten two seeded players, Reilly Opelka and Cristian Garin, defeating both in straight sets.

Tsitsipas has been just as dominate, if not even better, as he has also only lost one set so far, which was to John Isner in the third round. Tsitsipas looked as though he would face a tough test in the fourth round, playing the 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta, but was incredible in the straightforward win, taking the match in three sets in just over two hours.

It is well known that Medvedev does not like playing on clay, as he has repeatedly expressed his angry towards it, but it seems that he is starting to get used to it. Tsitsipas on the other hand has been excellent on clay, and some would say he is currently the second best clay court player on tour after Nadal.

Next. Predictions for Day 10 of the French Open. dark

This will be an incredibly close match, as they will be playing on Tsitsipas’ best surface, but Medvedev has been great against Tsitsipas in the past. It is tough to tell if Tsitsipas will be intimidated by Medvedev and his six win’s against him, or if he is confident that he is the better player on this surface. I think we will see the confident Tsitsipas on Tuesday, the one who knows he is the way better player on clay. I believe that in the end, Tsitsipas will get his second win over Medvedev, taking the match in five sets to advance to the semi-finals of the French Open.
