Last week saw the beginning of grass-court tennis across Europe for both the ATP and WTA tours. Some players, like Daniil Medvedev, have not had great recent runs (he won Monday, though!). Others, like Frances Tiafoe, have, however.

This is the first edition of what will be a weekly segment where we look at what players are trending in the right direction and who needs to figure things out.

Winners of tournaments will typically have a strong chance at the list, but surprise performances will not be ignored. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Daniil Medvedev part of those trending up or down in tennis this week

Trending up

Frances Tiafoe

It was a terrific week for the American in Stuttgart as he took down the home favorite Jan Lennard-Struff in the Final after a 3-set battle to claim the BOSS Open, his 3rd tour title. With the victory, Tiafoe joins the Top 10 rankings and should receive a big confidence boost to his overall game. Not a bad week at all. He is definitely trending in the right direction as the road to Wimbledon continues.

Katie Boulter

The 26-year-old Boulter came into the WTA event in Nottingham at 126th in the world and without much fanfare. At the end of the week, she had not lost a set in the entire tournament and was cruising to her 1st career title. With the win, she jumped all the way to 77th in the rankings. A nice time to trend upward in the rankings heading towards a Grand Slam.
