Alex Eala, the current WTA No. 18, suffered too soon a fate at the US Open, losing in the third round to Iva Jovic. Since then, the Filipina and the rest of the tennis world have been watching how the major unfolded and thinking about the next step in her career.
The best part is that what comes next isn't a long period of time away. Eala is scheduled to participate in the Singapore Tennis Open, a WTA 500 event, that takes place from September 21 through 27. Eala has played in the qualifying rounds at Singapore before, but has yet to participate in the main draw. She definitely will in 2026.
The field isn't so stacked that Alexandra Eala has no path to winning the event. Jessica Pegula was initially scheduled to play but withdrew, citing fatigue from the US Open. The American reached the semifinals in New York.

Mirra Andreeva is still expected to play at the tournament, and so is Amanda Anisimova, and those two could potentially be Eala's toughest competition. Neither will have the fan support in Singapore that Eala has, though. Few tournaments would have a player involved who is more of a fan favorite than Eala is.
After the Singapore Tennis Open, Eala will play in the Asian Games and, interestingly, skip the China Open, which takes place during the same stretch of time and is a WTA 1000 event. Instead, the Asian Games, a multi-nation and multi-sport event that takes place every four years, will give Eala a chance to represent the Philippines in tennis.
The Games run from September 27 through October 4, so if Eala makes the final in Singapore, some scheduling magic might need to occur for her to play at the Asian Games, which are set for Nagoya, Japan. Singapore to Nagoya is a nearly seven-hour flight.
After the Asian Games, Alex Eala's schedule isn't confirmed, but she will likely play in the Wuhan Open, another WTA 1000 tournament, which runs from October 12 through 18. Several other tournaments take place in Asia after Wuhan, and Eala could play in one or three of those.
She is unlikely to participate in the year-end WTA Finals, though. She currently sits at No. 15 in the race to the Finals, and only the top seven-ranked players automatically qualify, with an eighth spot going to the highest-ranked 2026 Grand Slam champion who isn't already in the top seven.
