The semifinals are now set on both the women's side and the men's side at the 2025 Australian Open. Most of the pre-tournament favorites remain, and if any did lose, it might be because one of the other favorites beat them. Such is the case with Novak Djokovic beating Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

On the women's side, only Coco Gauff, among the favorites, has been dispatched. She was beaten soundly by Paula Badosa. Badosa, though, has had good success in her career. She has been set back in the last two years by injuries. She is healthy again and playing well.

So who will win the semifinal matches on the women's side? Will the winners set up a potential first-time winner final? Here are the guesses.

Predicting who wins the women's semifinals at the 2025 Australian Open

Aryna Sabalenka versus Paula Badosa

Badosa's victory over Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals was extremely impressive. She played with as much power as the American, and winning in straight sets against an in-form Gauff means Sabalenka should expect the Spaniard to be at the top of her game in the semifinals.

Of course, the Belarusian and the Spaniard are good friends off the court as well as knowing what the other wants to do on the court. They have played one another seven times, and Sabalenka has won the last five times. Badosa has not beaten Sabalenka since 2021.

The Belarusian also simply does not lose in Australia anymore. No player is playing with more confidence than she is in Melbourne, and she has won the last two Australian Opens. She will defeat Badosa in the semifinals, but it will take her three sets to do it.

Iga Swiatek versus Madison Keys

Keys seems as if she has been playing professional tennis forever. She is still only 29 years old, though, and should have many years left to play high-level tennis. She also isn't new to relative success at the Australian Open. Twice she has reached the semifinals, including as recently as 2022. She has also beaten three seeded players to reach the semis.

Swiatek is on her best run ever in Melbourne. She has made one semifinal before (like, Keys, also in 2022), but she has never been as dominant in each match as she has in 2025. She has yet to drop a set, and from the second round (four matches), she has dropped a total of seven games. Swiatek is playing like someone who is out to make everyone forget about her failed drug test in 2024.

Swiatek is already back atop the WTA live rankings as Sabalenka had the points from winning the Australian Open last year fall off. The way Swiatek is playing, though, she is on pace to win her first title in Melbourne. She will certainly defeat Keys in straight sets.
