Alexandra Eala has gotten a lot of attention from tennis fans recently, and rightfully so. The 21-year-old Filipina has an improving game, and she could soon challenge for a long-term top-10 ranking and titles at Grand Slams. One might find it easy to forget that her semifinal Berlin Open opponent, Linda Noskova, is the same age.
Noskova has the kind of game that should make her dangerous on the grass courts of Wimbledon. Czech women have lately been a force at the major, and have won two of the last three titles in London. The way Noskova is playing, she could make it three out of four.
First, she needed to prove her ability against Eala, though. After all, the Czech is currently the higher-ranked player and was certainly the more aggressive in the first set in Berlin. While Eala spent much of the opening set trying to find her footing, Noskova was dominating the match.

The Czech finished the set with five aces and just one double fault. She also played brilliantly otherwise, finishing with 16 winners and just seven unforced errors. Eala had just four and five, respectively. It took only 29 minutes for Noskova to win the set 6-2.
The Filipina attempted to change the course of the match in the opening game of the second set, getting a hold. However, Noskova did the same and then got another break of Eala. A tennis fan watching the situation unfold in Berlin likely wanted a tight match between two blooming stars in their early 20s. Only one was reaching a high standard, though.
Still, Alexandra Eala has shown recently that she is able to come back in matches when she seemingly appears to be running out of time. What she needed was a sudden dip in form by Noskova, and to also augment her own game.
In the middle of the second set, she got that. She was able to break Noskova to get back to 3-all, and the match's narrative appeared to be twisting.
Unfortunately, the positivity for Eala wouldn't last. At 4-all, Noskova got another break and just needed to hold serve to move into her first grass-court final on the WTA tour. She was able to do so relatively easily and finished the match with 33 winners. She simply overpowered her Filipina opponent.
Linda Noskova will next face Jessica Pegula in Sunday's Berlin Open final. Pegula overcame top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in three sets in her semifinal match. Noskova will be trying to win her second career title (her first was at the 2024 Monterrey Open). Pegula has won 11 career singles titles, including winning the Berlin title in 2024.
