Carlos Alcaraz swerves to avoid loaded Emma Raducanu question

Alcaraz won Wimbledon and then was asked about a certain player watching him. He answered like a pro.

Carlos Alcaraz crushed Novak Djokovic in the final of 2024 Wimbledon. For the second straight year, the Spaniard defeated the Serb in the grass-court major final, but unlike last year, there was little doubt about who would win from the onset of the match. Alcaraz dominated.

The match was so surprisingly easy that no one could have blamed the Spaniard for looking around the stands and wondering who was watching. He would have seen a bunch of celebrities and former and current players. One player in particular appears to have been attached to Alcaraz - whether real or not - off the court.

Emma Raducanu is a Brit - yes, she was born in Canada but her allegiances lie with the UK and she is assigned a UK designation on the WTA's official website - and that is important in context. If she wanted to see a Grand Slam final as an attendee then what would make the most sense is that she watches one in London. That is the country she lives in.

To be fair, there have been rumors about Alcaraz dating Raducanu but neither player has confirmed that. The origin of the rumor seems to be one that was made-up on social media previously and did not involved the actual persons of Raducanu and Alcaraz. The Brit did recently break up with her boyfriend, Carlo Agostinelli, but that does not mean Raducanu went straight to Alcaraz.

To his credit, the Spaniard took the high road and most politically correct answers when asked about Raducanu watching his match against Djokovic. His responses also imply he was not trying to intentionally skirt an issue that the general public would find out about eventually anyway.

In his post-Wimbledon final press conference, the Spaniard said, "I think a lot of people have come to see the final. I think Novak, and I always put on a good show on the court. I think it's a very nice game to watch...(Raducanu) being from (the United Kingdom), I imagine that she wanted to come see it, just as if there were a Grand Slam in Murcia (Alcaraz’s hometown), I would go to see the final 100 percent, even if I didn’t play."

There is little in that to suggest Alcaraz is in a relationship with Raducanu or that he thought much about her watching. Maybe she just wanted to watch great tennis. If that is the case, seeing Carlos Alcaraz's current form is about the best one can see.
