Grigor Dimitrov becomes only the ninth player to achieve this milestone
Grigor Dimitrov has been on a resurgence in the last six months or so. It looks like he has developed some mental toughness after being deemed as mentally fragile for most parts of his career. Dimitrov has won nine of his last 10 deciding sets matches including his fourth round win over Hubert Hurkacz.
Dimitrov always had a good backhand slice but it's impressive how well he is striking his topspin backhand these days as that is often the shot that breaks down.
The former World No. 3 had his third-best season last year in terms of win percentage and has continued his form as he has an 18-5 win-loss record this year and won his first title since 2017 by defeating Holger Rune in Brisbane. He has also won 5 of his last 10 matches against top 10 ranked players.
Grigor Dimitrov is the latest active player to reach the quarterfinals of all the Masters 1000 events
With his fourth-round win over Hubert Hurkacz, Dimitrov became the ninth active player to make the quarters at all the nine Masters 1000. He reached the quarterfinal of the Miami Open for the first time in 13 attempts. This ensures that he keeps alive his active streak of 11 straight years of making at least one Masters quarterfinal.
It was an exciting fourth-round match with Dimitrov going for big shots and Hurkacz defending superbly. The Bulgarian hit 43 winners to Hurkacz's 28 which shows how much he was dictating the play and his aggressive game delivered the victory.
The match had an unfortunate incident as Hurkacz accidentally touched the net while attempting to finish a point when the score was 2-2 in the final set tiebreak. The match turned there as Dimitrov looked tired and had just hit a double fault before this incident. Hurkacz's left foot clearly touched the net and he was disappointed he missed such an easy put-away and threw his racket.
