The Laver Cup has been described as the equivalent of golf's Ryder Cup, but that isn't exactly true. Sure, it's two different regions playing each other, but the big difference is that golfers always know they are going to be playing on grass. Tennis players could potentially play on three different surfaces.

That last part might be obvious but it is important. On paper, the roster for Team Europe at the 2024 Laver Cup is quite a bit better than Team World. But many of Team Europe's players this year are better on clay and grass courts than they are on hard courts. The event will be held on an indoor surface in Berlin.

This could even the playing field a bit as Team World has a number of players who are better on hard courts. Here is what you need to know about this year's Laver Cup.

Who is playing at the 2024 Laver Cup?

Team Europe's roster:

  • Grigor Dimitrov
  • Carlos Alcaraz
  • Alexander Zverev
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas
  • Casper Ruud
  • Daniil Medvedev

Team World's roster:

  • Frances Tiafoe
  • Taylor Fritz
  • Ben Shelton
  • Thanasi Kokkinakis
  • Alejandro Tabilo
  • Francisco Cerundolo

The issue for Team World here is the depth. Medvedev might be the best of all the players on hard courts. The Americans do well on the surface, however. The fact is that Team Europe is excellent from top to bottom, though Tsitsipas's current form might be an issue.

Who are the coaches for the Laver Cup?

For the final year, John McEnroe will coach Team World while Bjorn Borg will coach Team Europe. This has been the case since 2017. Beginning next year, Andre Agassi will coach Team World and Yannick Noah will coach Team Europe. That should be mucho fun.

What is the schedule and dates for the 2024 Laver Cup?

The Laver Cup will be held at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany. The order of play is as follows:

  • Friday, September 20: Three singles matches and one doubles match
  • Saturday, September 21: Three singles matches and one doubles match
  • Sunday, September 22: One doubles match followed by three singles matches (if needed)

Next. Next: ATP winners and losers from the 2024 Grand Slams. ATP winners and losers from the 2024 Grand Slams. dark

How can teams win the Laver Cup?

For either team to win, they need to get 13 points. Last year, Team World dominated and won 13-2. There is a big difference in players this year, though. Each match win on Friday is worth one point, each win is worth two points on Saturday, and a Sunday win is worth three points. A total of 12 matches might be played to determine the winner. The guess here is that Team Europe wins fairly easily.
