United Cup News: Groups, schedule and how to watch
By Lee Vowell
The 2025 tennis season gets underway this week with the beginning of three different tournaments. Those include the Brisbane International, United Cup, and Hong Kong Open. Each tournament has a bunch of stars, of course, but the United Cup is a bit unique.
The event features nation versus nation instead of being an individual-player tournament. There will be a round-robin stage, followed by knock-out rounds. The event will be held in Perth and Sydney, Australia.
Players have previously used this event as a warm-up to the Australian Open later in January. There is enough high-quality competition to help them prepare. Plus, if you are not a fan of one specific player, tennis fans can also choose a country to root for.
Which nations are in the group stage of the 2025 United Cup?
Group A (in Perth):
Canada
Croatia
USA
Group B (in Sydney):
Czechia
Norway
Poland
Group C (in Perth):
Greece
Kazakhstan
Spain
Group D (in Sydney):
France
Italy
Switzerland
Group E (in Perth):
Brazil
China
Germany
Group F (in Sydney):
Argentina
Australia
Great Britain
Each team has its own stars, of course, but some stand out more than others. Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz are involved for the United States. Germany is the heavy favorite to get out of their stage because the team features Alexander Zverev. Jannik Sinner is not playing for Italy, but Jasmine Paolini is. Iga Swiatek will play for Poland and Elena Rybakina will participate for Kazakhstan.
In other words, if you just want to watch because of the quality of the players, this event was made for you.
