Australian Open Quarterfinals: Ranking the Final Eight

It has been an exhilarating week down at the Australian Open. Think about some of the matches we have enjoyed. Rafael Nadal came back in a five set victory in the second round. Roger Federer was ousted by Andreas Seppi to make it the first time in 12 years we won’t see Federer in at least the semifinals in Melbourne. Young Australians have taken the tennis world by storm and the fans down under are supporting them with gusto. Australian Nick Kyrgios completed an amazing comeback to carry his country’s hopes into the second week.

More from Andy Murray

Even with all the amazing matches we’ve seen thus far, the best is yet to come. Think about the possible story lines of the next few days. Can Stan Wawrinka defend his title when so few expect him to contend? Is Nadal a contender as much as he wants to deny it? Will Novak continue his dominance down under? Can a new Grand Slam champion emerge? Nishikori? Raonic? Berdych? Will Kyrgios continue to dazzle in front of the home crowd? And why is no one talking about Andy Murray?

Here we will go through each of the Australian Open Quarterfinalists. We will note how they reached the second week, their possible path to the championship, and their chances of taking home the crown. This is not a prediction of who will win, but a look at who may have the best chance to start 2015 in Grand Slam fashion. Read on for the rankings…
