French Open: Saturday Round 4 Predictions
French Open: Saturday Round 4 Predictions
The French Open is heating up nicely on the men’s half of the draw as we enter the second week of action in Paris. Rain is threatening play that is scheduled for Sunday, with no roofs on any of the courts and Roland Garros meaning that play could be very stop start.
In terms of attention grabbing match ups, there haven’t been a huge amount so far to sink our teeth into, but that is all change in the fourth round as some of the loftier seeds meet each other. There are also Frenchman in three of the four matches on Sunday and you can be sure they will receive vociferous support despite all being underdogs.
Sunday 31st Schedule
Philippe-Chatrier Court
11:00 AM Start
- Women’s Singles – Round 4
Elina Svitolina (UKR)[19] vs. Alize Cornet (FRA)[29]
- Men’s Singles – Round 4
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)[14] vs. Tomas Berdych (CZE)[4]
There is no hiding from the fact that Tsonga has endured a very tough 2015 to this point. He has never really realised his true potential, especially at his home Grand Slam and this doesn’t look to be his year either. His physicality won him matches in years gone by, but the rest of the tour seem to have caught up in that respect.
Berdych on the other hand has enjoyed a stellar year so far, especially against lower ranked opponents. Assuming his can keep his focus against Tsonga and the crowd, this shouldn’t be too taxing for Berdych who in the back of his mind must be eyeing up a place in the final. Berdych in three
- Men’s Singles – Round 4
Gael Monfils (FRA)[13] vs. Roger Federer (SUI)[2]
The match the leapt out at us when the draw was made, Monfils has made a real meal of even getting this far. He has spent almost double the amount of time on court than Federer and whilst he is a physical phenomenon, there is no way he will be as fresh as he wants to be.
On recent form Federer should have no problems and he has been in solid form during the opening rounds. He won’t enjoy his recent record against Monfils and so will be additionally motivated to score convincing revenge on the Frenchman. Federer in three
- Women’s Singles – Round 4
Flavia Pennetta (ITA)[28] vs. Garbine Muguruza (ESP)[21]
Suzanne-Lenglen Court
11:00 AM Start

Gabashvili is one the surprise packages of this year’s French Open but this is where his dream run will come to and end. His opponent has adopted the nickname of ‘Klei’ Nishikori due to his affinity for the surface and should ease through this one and face tougher tasks ahead. Nishikori in three
- Men’s Singles – Round 4
Stan Wawrinka (SUI)[8] vs. Gilles Simon (FRA)[12]
Wawrinka might not be in the best of form, but he looks to have restored his focus in Paris. Simon will have the backing of the French crowd and is probably the most likely of the home trio to make it to the quarter finals, but ultimately Wawrinka should have far too much quality. Wawrinka in four
- Women’s Singles – Round 4
Lucie Safarova (CZE)[13] vs. Maria Sharapova (RUS)[2
