Wimbledon 2015: Writers Awards – Best Match

Wimbledon managed to set pulses racing once again this year. Fans were treated to a series of thrilling encounters, ranging from dominant individual displays to epic five setters. Hot conditions over the fortnight in London proved to be no barrier to some of the highest quality of tennis.

The men’s side of the draw was a tale of two contrasting styles of match. It was the top tier players who were cruising through, with their early round matches beautiful in their effortlessness. Then their were the scraps, just as enthralling in their own way, that Wimbledon has become renowned for.

More from Majors

Drama was not in short supply in the women’s draw too. A number of players had to battle back from the brink of defeat to stay alive in the Championships. Lower ranked players seemed galvanised at causing upsets, as we saw major seeds drop from the first round onwards.

It is the matches that have us on the edge of our seats that tends to be the enduring memories year on year. Who can forget the events of Isner-Mahut, not only for the tennis on show, but as a spectacle as a whole. 2015 was another year were some unforgettable matches took place.

Here at Lob and Smash we have endeavoured to draw our own conclusions on the fascinating fortnight of tennis. To do so, the writers have each shared their own opinions on a variety of topics, adding their two cents to the key questions now that the tournament has run it’s course.
