Angelique Kerber: Chance at Redemption against Serena Williams

Angelique Kerber has reached the finals in women’s singles at the Wimbledon Championships for just the second time throughout her career.
Angelique Kerber is one match away from her third career Grand Slam singles title. In her way, however, is a tennis legend who has stopped her before. American Serena Williams has defied the odds and reached yet another Wimbledon final. She has missed significant time throughout the past year on the WTA Tour after becoming a new mother and no-one expected to see her in such impressive form having played so little.
It is Kerber-Williams though, in a rematch of the 2016 women’s final at the Wimbledon Championships. This time, Kerber looks for redemption.

The German tennis star won both of her Grand Slam singles titles on the 2016 WTA Tour. That year, she won the Australian Open and the US Open. After an up and down 2017, she has climbed back into the mix in women’s singles. Competing with the likes of Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, Garbine Muguruza, and Elina Svitolina, Kerber has remained consistent this year. Her run at Wimbledon is the culmination of a lot of hard work that has clearly paid off. Williams, while she has been away from the courts for a while, has even more experience to draw upon than Kerber though. The finals matchup is sure to be one for the ages.

2016 also marks the last time Williams won the singles title at Wimbledon. Williams claimed the singles and doubles title in 2016. Both she and Angelique Kerber have put on a clinic at the major tournament in London this year. Whoever jumps out early in the first set may have the advantage. Stay tuned to see if Williams can win yet another title at the Grand Slam event or if Kerber can inch closer to completing title-wins at all four of the majors. She already has two on her resume. Saturday is a chance for her to add a third.
