Andy Murray has had a good run so far in the Citi Open in Washington. Returning to hard court action after almost 16 months, Murray has had to slog it out to win his matches. With a relatively fair draw ahead, we take a look at Murray’s chances to win the Citi Open.

Andy Murray faces Marius Copil next in his 3rd round match. They faced each other on clay last year, with Murray winning the match in straight sets.

Slowly climbing

Murray has seen an upswing in form. However, the Brit still needs to work on his movement and his serve. His toss especially is an issue, with Murray tossing the ball wildly and at an angle that makes it difficult to get the contact point of the ball right.

To be fair, however, Murray has played admirably so far considering the little practice he’s had on the match courts and on hard courts. Beating Kyle Edmund in hard courts is commendable, especially since Murray lost to Edmund on his favourite surfaces, grass (Which can be called Edmund’s worst surface).

More from Andy Murray

His match against Copil should be relatively straightforward. However, as someone who’s predicted matches for a while, I tend to be very wrong on many occasions, so brace yourselves.

The challenges that lie ahead

If Hyeon Chung manages to make it to the quarterfinals, expect a cracker of a match, as both Murray and Chung have somewhat similar playing styles. Murray, however, could face Isner in the semifinals and Alexander Zverev in the Finals. That’s a tough draw to carve a win out off, especially after being out of action for as long as Murray has.

At the end of the day, it all depends on whether or not Murray has recovered well and if he’s playing well. A Murray who’s in form is hard to beat, and it’ll be no surprise if he manages to win the title.
