Serena Williams is cruising right now at the 2018 US Open. But, so is her sister Venus Williams and the two meet each other next.

Serena Williams is a six-time US Open champion in women’s singles. Her sister Venus is a two-time champion at Flushing Meadows. They have also both tasted glory in doubles action at the event and, despite their being veterans of the sport, the two remain amongst the best on the WTA Tour. Serena has even bounced back rather quickly since her return to the courts after becoming a new mother. Last year, Serena took the title at the Australian Open.

Now, the two sisters square off in the round of 32 at the US Open.

Serena is the tournament’s 17th seed and Venus is the tournament’s 16th seed. Both are something of underdogs this year, with a younger generation of women’s singles stars beginning to take over the tour. The likes of Caroline Wozniacki, Garbine Muguruza, and Simona Halep among others have overtaken the sport. Halep, however, saw an early round upset at the hands of Kaia Kanepi.

Serena Williams faces sister Venus next at the 2018 US Open. She leads their career head-to-head matchup and should be considered a slight favorite.

Anything can happen at a grand slam, but the edge should goto Serena Williams out of the Williams sisters next. Neither will be going away easy though. Also still alive in the women’s singles draw is defending champion Sloane Stephens. She moves on, as does rising star Elina Svitolina, Caroline Garcia, and Madison Keys among others. The biggest shock so far must be Halep’s first round upset. Coming in as the top seed and current French Open champion, she was a contender for the US Open title. Stay tuned to see how the action goes down at Flushing Meadows and who reaches glory on the women’s singles side.
