Simona Halep Remains World Number One Despite US Open Blunder

Romanian tennis star Simona Halep has dominated the 2018 WTA Tour. After a disappointing outing at the US Open, she remains the top player in women’s singles tennis.

Simona Halep is STILL your world number one in women’s singles tennis. She has been fantastic so far on the 2018 WTA Tour. That’s why her opening round upset at the US Open was such a shock. Halep saw an early exit at the hands of Kaia Kanepi.

After the US Open though, Halep remains in the world number one position as well as the top player in the Porsche Race to Singapore for the WTA Finals.

The biggest shakeup in the rankings this week comes as a result of Naomi Osaka’s US Open title. Defeating American tennis legend Serena Williams in the finals, Osaka jumps 12 places in the singles rankings into the world number seven position. She also moves up 11 places into the fourth position in the Race to Singapore after her first career grand slam win.

Simona Halep maintains her stronghold over the world number one ranking in women’s singles tennis. Despite her early round exit at the US Open, the French Open champion remains the player to beat on the WTA Tour.

Other small movers include German tennis star Angelique Kerber. She moves up one position in the singles rankings, reaching the world number three position. Caroline Garcia jumps two places and into the world number four ranking. Simona Halep has her work cut out for her but she ought to be considered the top contender in women’s singles tennis. Do not expect her opening round upset at the US Open to impact her moving forward. With the Race to Singapore poised for a thrilling finale, Halep is right at the front of the pack.
