Andy Murray is back on the ATP Tour, kicking off his 2019 season at the Brisbane International. Here’s a look at how he fared.

Action at the 2019 Brisbane International is underway, but former world number one Andy Murray has been ousted. He wins his opening match before dropping his round of 16 meeting. The British tennis star is returning to action after ongoing injuries, surgery, and having played just intermittently in the last two years.

A former back to back champion at the Brisbane International, Murray took home men’s singles titles in both 2012 and 2013. He is also a five-time runner-up at the Australian Open which is rapidly approaching. Play at Brisbane is a fantastic primer for players heading into the Grand Slam event and Murray has gotten some much needed reps in.

One point that Murray addresses with the press is the difference between a best of five and best of three setting. Grand Slams require a best of five and he needs to limit his having to go the distance in matches at the upcoming Australian Open. While he needs more time on the courts in order to gain more consistency, Murray does not need to push his body too far.
