Auckland Performance Signals Eugenie Bouchard Comeback

Eugenie Bouchard earns her first title in either singles or doubles in five years. It comes alongside doubles partner Sofia Kenin.
Can we officially call it a comeback by Eugenie Bouchard? She is on the right track at least. Winning the women’s doubles title at the 2019 ASB Classic alongside Sofia “Sonya” Kenin, the young Canadian is in the winner’s circle again.
Prior to the doubles win in Auckland, we put together a list of Bouchard’s best moments. Now, she has one to add to the list. It is her first career WTA doubles win.
Kenin has made headlines herself in the last year. Her profile continues to rise with the Auckland win and we should keep an eye on her progress throughout the entirety of the 2019 WTA Tour. At the end of the 2018 WTA Tour, Bouchard managed to climb the singles rankings. Even though he Auckland title came in women’s doubles, the young Canadian also put on an impressive run on the women’s singles side of the action.
Bouchard reached the quarterfinals at the ASB Classic, falling to Julia Goerges in a tough three-set match. The German would move on and end up taking the title in Auckland. Although the quarterfinals singles loss was a hard pill to swallow for Genie, the doubles title more than makes up for it. She and Kenin can take tons of positives away from their stellar performance at the 2019 ASB Classic.
