The 2019 Australian Open enters the quarterfinals this week. Here’s a look at all of the fourth round action that got us there.

Let’s start with the Australian Open top seeds in both men’s and women’s singles tennis. World number one Novak Djokovic secures his place in the quarters. The Serbian great knocks out Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev in four sets. Hats off to Medvedev though for reaching the fourth round for just the first time in his career.

Djokovic sets up a highly anticipated matchup with Japanese great Kei Nishikori. The eighth seeded Nishikori is coming off of a big win over Pablo Carreño Busta where he took their fourth round meeting in an epic five set thriller.

We still like Djokovic moving forward. He already topped our list of TOP FIVE FAVORITES in men’s singles this year and, so long as he is in the mix, should remain the player to beat. Djokovic is a six-time champion at the Australian Open.

Women’s singles fourth round action pit world number one Simona Halep up against a player who she has struggled against in the past. Although that’s not quite fair, everyone has struggled against American tennis legend Serena Williams.

The American great entered the fourth round match as somewhat of an underdog? Not so sure about that as she has scoreboard over Halep historically and is arguably the greatest tennis player in history. Williams advances to the quarterfinals in what we thought we be a three set match. She defeats the top seed Halep 6-1 4-6 6-4.
