The WTA Tour features some of the best veteran tennis players and rising stars in the sport. Here’s a look at five sleepers who will deliver in 2019.

When considering some of the best tennis players in the sport, Bianca Andreescu might be a relatively unknown name to most. She has burst onto the scene in women’s singles though. Not only did she win her maiden WTA singles title this year, but she did so on one of the biggest stages the sport has to offer. Add on top of that the opponents she took down on her way to that title. The accomplishment immediately makes her one of the sport’s rising stars.

Andreescu is just 18-years-old. In March, she defeated Irina-Camelia Begu, Dominika Cibulková, Stefanie Vögele, Wang Qiang, Garbiñe Muguruza, and Elina Svitolina to reach the finals at Indian Wells. There, she came face to face with former world number one and three-time Grand Slam singles champion Angelique Kerber.

Andreescu defeats Kerber 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to win Indian Wells.

The list of players the young Canadian ousted to reach the finals was already impressive. Then, in the finals, she knocked out the German veteran in a tough three set thriller to win Indian Wells.

Andreescu would follow up her Indian Wells performance with another strong run at the Miami Open. As of writing, she has reached the round of 16, ousting Kerber yet again in a rematch during the round of 32. Prior to that, she knocked out rising American tennis star Sofia Kenin and Begu again. Andreescu jumped 36 places in the women’s singles rankings follow her title win and her stock should continue to climb on the 2019 WTA Tour.
