The US Open final with Jannik Sinner playing Taylor Fritz drew a number of celebrities to Arthur Ashe Stadium. While it is not uncommon for a Grand Slam final to have famous people watching the match in person, the US Open was a bit different in 2024 since Fritz is an American. Matthew McConaughey and Jon Hamm were in New York, and so were Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

Swift, of course, is likely the most famous person in the world. A person is unlikely to travel anywhere where there aren't Swifties. Kelce is pretty famous too, of course, though he plays the American version of football that doesn't translate as well overseas.

Kelce wasn't alone in representing the Chiefs, either. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in attendance. The team had played on the Thursday before the Sunday final so the players had some time.

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce makes mad confession about Jannik Sinner

At least Kelce was able to control himself, though there was some question in his mind whether he would be able to. The was no pretense as to who Kelce was rooting for. Neither was there for Swift. She wore colors that were quite American.

On a recent episode of the podcast that Travis Kelce does with his brother, Jason, Travis admitted that he wanted to "heckle" Sinner during the match in an attempt to help out Fritz. Travis thought the better of it, however, as he did not want to get kicked out of the stadium. That would have been an embarrassment to both Kelce and Taylor Swift.

On the New Heights episode, Kelce said, "(The tennis match was) very quiet and...when it’s very quiet we want to say something. I’m not a quiet person, I’ve never been a quiet person. The entire time I wanted to heckle the Italian, Jannik Sinner, the number one player in the world. And really try to get in his head to help my guy Fritzy out...I'm sure if I started heckling like the guy did in Happy Gilmore...if it had gotten to that point, I'm sure I would've been asked to leave."

Thankfully, no scene was made and Kelce and Swift were able to watch the match without issue. Well, the issue might have been that Sinner won in straight sets and ended any American dream of a Fritz victory in New York. What is also doubtful is that any heckling would have bothered Sinner.
