Wimbledon is one of the most iconic Grand Slams. Since its beginning in 1877, the grass-court major has made its way to keep its long-known traditions, such as the all-in-white dress code. On the men's tour, Roger Federer keeps the title record with a total of eight conquests. Just below him stands Novak Djokovic with a sum of seven titles, the same amount as former player Pete Sampras, who achieved the amazing feat of winning all his titles in an eight-year span.

In spite of its long history, in the present century, the list of champions has been reduced to a very short list of players. In fact, in the last 20 editions only five different players have won the championship at All England: 'The Big Three', Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz last year. Also, Wimbledon possesses an unbelievable record, the longest match ever in the history of the sport, where John Isner defeated Nicolas Mahut in an eleven-hour battle that lasted three days.

With this year's tournament in the making, Novak Djokovic has the chance to tie Federer's record if he takes the championship. However, he will have to succeed against some heavy contenders such as Alcaraz, the defending champion, and current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. In the last editions, there have been some special matches involving the Big Three that are worth remembering.

2023 Wimbledon men's final

Last year's final shocked the tennis community. Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in a five-set battle 1-6 7-6 6-1 3-6 6-4. The match marked Djokovic's first loss in Wimbledon since the 2017 quarterfinals against Tomas Berdych. Alcaraz's achievement is remarkable not only because he won at All England when he was only 20 years old, but also stopped Djokovic from reaching Federer's record with the most championships.

Wimbledon 2022 quarterfinals

Rafael Nadal gave a heroic performance defeating Taylor Fritz in the Wimbledon 2022 quarterfinals. Rafa managed to win in 5 sets 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 7-6 with a 7mm abdominal tear that became evident just a couple of games into the first set. Even though his own team was asking the Spanish legend to give up in the second set, Nadal defeated all odds and managed to take the win. Unfortunately, the injury forced Nadal to withdraw from playing the semifinals against Kyrgios.

Wimbledon 2021 quarterfinals

Wimbledon's 2021 quarterfinals became Roger Federer's last match not only in the tournament but also in his singles career. Hubert Hurkacz defeated Roger in straight sets 6-3 7-6 6-0. Nearing 40 years old, this match turned out to be the last one on tour, until his retirement playing doubles at the Laver Cup. Although the match itself was not very competitive, it marked the farewell of one of the best tennis players in history.
