The Wimbledon 2025 draw has been announced, and there are no surprises with the seeds. This is as expected, as seeds at majors are no longer based on the whim of the tournament, but instead based on the rankings on the ATP and WTA tours.
This means that even though Carlos Alcaraz is likely the betting favorite to win his third-straight grass-court major, Jannik Sinner, because he is ranked No. 1, is the top seed. Novak Djokovic has won multiple Wimbledons, of course, but he is seeded 6 because he is ranked as ATP No. 6.
On the ladies' side, it is wide open who could win. The last two years have seen shock winners Markéta Vondroušová (2023) and Barbora Krejčíková (2024), neither of whom is one of the top seeds in 2025. That doesn't mean there could be another surprise winner from the Czech Republic, though. Let's start there.
Potential quarterfinal matchups for Wimbledon 2025
Potential ladies' quarterfinal matchups at Wimbledon 2025
- No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka vs. No. 6 Madison Keys
- No. 4 Jasmine Paolini vs. No. 5 Zheng Qinwen
- No. 2 Coco Gauff vs. No. 8 Iga Swiatek
- No. 3 Jessica Pegula vs. No. 7 Mirra Andreeva
First, it is weird seeing Swiatek seeded so high. She was the WTA No. 1 for most of two years, and it's not like she suffered a major injury. She simply dipped in form. Plus, she hasn't shown that she can be elite on grass courts yet.
Neither has Sabalenka. She hasn't yet made a final at Wimbledon, and her game hasn't translated well to Wimbledon for some reason. It should. She has a big serve and she can volley well enough, but she gets outplayed in the bigger matches at the grass-court major.
A player to look out for that could crash the party for the players above is 20-year-old Linda Noskova. Czech ladies seem made for the grass of Wimbledon, and two different players from the country have won the trophy in the past two years. Noskova could win it in 2025 and keep winning it for years to come.
Potential men's quarterfinal matchups at Wimbledon 2025
- No. 1 Jannik Sinner vs. No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti
- No. 4 Jack Draper vs. No. 6 Novak Djokovic
- No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz vs. No. 8 Holger Rune
- No. 3 Alexander Zverev vs. No. 5 Taylor Fritz
There is one king here, and that is Carlos Alcaraz. The 22-year-old might be viewed as a clay-court master, having won the French Open the last two years, but he is statistically even better on grass. His career record is 29-3, and he hasn't lost at Wimbledon since 2022.
While Alcaraz is the heavy favorite, Jannik Sinner might be picked by some to defeat the Spaniard in the final. The Italian is the better player on hard courts, generally speaking, but he isn't as good on grass. He recently dropped his second-round match in Halle, for instance.
The quarterfinal matchup between Djokovic and Draper would be fan-favorite heaven. Brits are likely to be firmly behind Draper, but there will be many wanting the Serb to get his 25th major title. He might call it a career if he achieves that.
