It is hard to ignore the achievements of Serena Williams, although her win did not prevent other women from making headlines of their own. Finalist Garbine Muguruza had certainly entered the consciousness of the Lob and Smash team as well as the tennis community as a whole.

Victoria Azarenka also gains plaudits for pushing Williams hard, returning to form to have a real impact on the Championships. Whilst she ultimately fell short, we know how dangerous she can be when she is at the top of her game.

Williams has been the irresistible force in women’s tennis for so long now that we almost take her for granted. Her place as a role model in women’s sport has been played up since her victory and rightly so, she is an inspiration to both men and women.

Voting Outcome

3 – Serena Williams

2 – Garbine Muguruza

1 – Victoria Azarenka

Honorable Mentions – Coco Vandeweghe, Agnieszka Radwanska

Without votes but deserving of a mention in the best female category, both Coco Vandeweghe and Agnieszka Radwanska at SW19. The former is a hard hitting American who could well blend in with the top women in the sport.
