Final Results

The Lob and Smash team were unsurprisingly unanimous in their nominations for biggest upset of the fortnight. Whilst Rafael Nadal has struggled in recent years at Wimbledon, it was still an enormous shock to see him taken apart by a player ranked outside of the Top 100.

Dustin Brown played with the courage that made the upset possible, whilst also maintaining the flair in his game that has made him a fan favourite on tour. It felt like a performance that, on the day, would have been enough to beat any player in the world and it will certainly not be forgotten quickly.

The dominance of the Big Four over the last decade and their incredible consistency at the major events has created a situation where any time they lose before the quarter or semi finals is a result that sends shockwaves through the sport.

Voting Outcome

4 – Rafael Nadal v Dustin Brown

1 – Jelena Jankovic v Petra Kvitova

Jelena Jankovic upsetting last years champion Petra Kvitova was especially poignant given that past champions very rarely lose early at Wimbledon. Jankovic had already endeared herself to the British public when she won the mixed doubles with Jamie Murray and continued her love affair with Wimbledon.
