Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard is in the winner’s circle already on the 2019 WTA Tour. She wins her opener in Auckland.

Eugenie Bouchard wins her opening match at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. The young Canadian is a former runner-up at Wimbledon in 2014 and she is looking to rise in the rankings this coming year. Toward the end of the 2018 WTA Tour, Bouchard managed to find her footing on the courts once again and climb the singles rankings, cracking the WTA Top 100.

In Auckland this week, Genie defeats American Madison Brengle in straight sets. Bouchard takes their meeting, going 6-3, 6-3 over Brengle.

The 2019 WTA Tour is set to feature the likes of top players such as Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, and German veteran Angelique Kerber. While these players seek to cement their places atop the women’s singles rankings, Bouchard and others aim to gain any and all momentum they can in the early weeks on tour.

Bouchard defeats Brengle 6-3, 6-3 at the ASB Classic.

With the Australian Open right around the corner, the young Canadian is in need of as many reps as she can get. Her straight set victory over Brengle is exactly the start she was looking for.

After the match, Bouchard mentioned how happy she was to have her focus back. She is set to rediscover her game on the 2019 WTA Tour. Entering the year as the world number 87 in women’s singles tennis, the former world number five has to gain some serious ground if she hopes to touch career heights yet again.

At just 24-years-old though, Genie has plenty of time to dig deep and take things one match at a time on the WTA Tour. Her early 2019 win over Brengle pushes things in the right direction.

Lately, Bouchard has been better known for her off the court activities. During the offseason, the Canadian took time to enjoy Halloween, posting photos like these with friends. Then, at Christmas, Genie sported an ugly Christmas sweater, and once again enjoyed the holidays while sharing it with fans via social media here. She is constantly growing her fandom. If Bouchard can continue to win early on the 2019 WTA Tour though, the Canadian could easily make more and more headlines.
