Roger Federer, Serena Williams complete mixed doubles match for the ages

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer and American icon Serena Williams found themselves facing off in a mixed doubles match that will not be forgotten.

At the 2019 Hopman Cup, two of the greatest tennis players ever in Roger Federer and Serena Williams found themselves facing off in mixed doubles action. The eight-team tournament features fantastic players from around the world. Teams of two compete, taking on another team via two singles matches and then one mixed doubles match.

Federer and partner Belinda Bencic are the defending champions at the event and were taking on Team USA complete with Williams and young up and comer Frances Tiafoe.

What a match it was. Fans celebrated loudly at the conclusion, applauding the likes of Federer, Williams, and their partners with enthusiasm. HERE is a look at match point. Team Switzerland takes the meeting in straight sets, winning 4-2 4-3 (3).

Prior to the mixed doubles action between Team USA and Team Switzerland, Williams put on an impressive performance over Bencic. In a thrilling three-set match, the American tennis legend roared back to defeat her opponent, going 4-6 6-4 6-3.

On the men’s singles side of the team matchup, Federer found himself in the winner’s circle yet again, giving Team Switzerland the early lead. He defeats Tiafoe in straight sets, winning 6-4 6-1.

Federer and Williams are easily the greatest tennis players to ever grace a court. The debate rages on, but fans and players alike can agree that they have dominated their sides of the sport for the entirety of their careers. Even into their late 30s, the veteran greats remain among the top players in both men’s and women’s tennis.

Team Switzerland defeats Team USA 2-1 at the 2019 Hopman Cup. As Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic look to defend their title at the event, the tennis world is kicking off action across the globe. On the ATP Tour, all eyes are on world number one Novak Djokovic. The Serbian bounced back from injury and is in top form heading into the new year. He is coming off of a two Grand Slam year and is gearing up for play at the Australian Open. Federer, however, is the current two-time defending champion at Melbourne Park and looks to win there again.
