The 2019 Australian Open is right around the corner. Here is a look at the top five favorites to take the title in men’s singles.

Alexander Zverev makes the list of the top five favorites in men’s singles to take the title at the 2019 Australian Open. He comes in at number five. The rising ATP star is one of the biggest names in the sport and he is just 21-years-old. Zverev is coming off of an ATP Finals title in London where he defeated the world number one in the finals. Taking down Novak Djokovic at the O2 Arena in London earned Zverev his biggest win to date.

Now, Zverev needs a Grand Slam singles title to his name. That could come at the Australian Open this year. Previously, the young German has reached the third round of play twice at the major tournament. Both times came in the previous two years. While he has never advanced past the quarterfinals of any of the four Grand Slams, Zverev is poised to breakout to the next level of elite tennis on the 2019 ATP Tour.

Prior to his play on tour this year, Zverev and doubles partner Angelique Kerber finished runner-up at the Hopman Cup for the second straight year. Team Germany finishes behind Team Switzerland but his performance there is indicative of what we can expect in the coming weeks. Look for Zverev to be a top contender at the Australian Open.
