So much more...

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are seemingly going to take turns winning Grand Slams at this point. After arguably playing the greatest match in tennis history at the French Open, an Alcaraz victory, Sinner shocked his rival in the final on the grass court of Wimbledon.

Heading into the US Open, one might assume Sinner had the advantage. He was, after all, the best player on hard courts in the sport over the last couple of years. Alcaraz is a fantastic player, and the better of the two on clay, but on hard courts? Surely, that would belong to the Italian.

Instead, in the final of the 2025 US Open, Alcaraz kept doing what he had done all tournament. He made some excellent shots, of course, but he took more advantage of his opponent's mistakes. He was also nearly impossible to beat in his service games.

Sinner is a great returner, but could hardly touch Alcaraz. The Italian had just one break point opportunity, which he got. But he was also broken five times. Meanwhile, Alcaraz was hitting 40 winners and 30 unforced errors.

It is nearly impossible to defeat Alcaraz at any point, but playing at the level he was, even Sinner couldn't play with him. Alcaraz took the first set 6-2, dropped the second 3-6, but jumped out to a 5-0 lead in set three before winning the set 6-1.

He got the only break he needed in the fourth set early enough to end any real drama of winning the US Open. Sinner held to push to 4-5, but the Spaniard only needed to hold to win his sixth Grand Slam, two more than Sinner. He did so to win the final set 6-4.

With the victory, Carlos Alcaraz's seventh win in the final eight matches against Jannik Sinner, the Spaniard moves back into No. 1 on the ATP tour. Sinner will fall to No. 2, and both are well ahead of the rest of the field. The battle for year-end No. 1 might come down to November's ATP Finals.
